Thai Airways were supposed to start sending their brand new A350 to Melbourne from September 16th last year however, that hasn’t gone exactly to plan for the airline, it’s gone really bad.

I’ve written a few post’s in the past about their delays into Melbourne…

Well there is now hope that the airline may ‘possibly’ start sending the A350 to Melbourne from the 1st of October.

TG465/466 eff 01OCT17 A350-900XWB tentatively scheduled to replace 777-300ER, 1 daily

Expertflyer also confirms the swap.

If you’re trying to fly on the inaugural flight I would really try to hold off as long as possible, who know’s they may change it for the 6th or 7th time, I’ve lost count now.

Why has it been delayed?

This is the really interesting part of the story. The reason the aircraft hasn’t been able to fly to Australia yet is due to CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) saying that their ‘Unfamiliar’ with the aircraft. What’s funny about this is that Qatar use their A350 on the Adelaide servicesCathay just commenced A350 services to Melbourne and even Singapore Airlines sent their A350 to Melbourne for a short period of time.

Very Interesting stuff…

My two bookings with Thai were based on the A350 into Melbourne
May and July are my bookings !! What a wast of time and money ( second was Buisness Class)
If there was a way to gain a refund and fly Singapore/or Emirates for the same trip would not hesitate

Hi Zac
Seems I’m on a mission !
Just found out my Buisness class trip on Thai Melbourne to Bangkok is going to be the old 777-200 without the full bed recline
Melbourne is getting very poorly treated by Thai

I just did an online booking direct with Thai from 8 Oct – 15 Oct and TG465 – TG466 are showing A350-900 and TG461-TG462 are showing 777-300 but I have seen that before!!

from what i can gather they’ve been recently flying the A350 for the night flight and the 777-300ER (with fully flat beds) for the daytime flight. I booked a fare based on this information for November 10th and now I’ve just been alerted that they are reverting back to the 777-200ER for the daytime flight from late Oct through until early February 2018! REALLY not happy about it. From what I can gather Thai have a fairly poor track record in this regard. I only booked with them as I had some spare United Miles and if it does turn out to the old 772 that I fly on then I certainly wont be using Thai again.
