I recently flew Cathay’s 5th freedom flight from Vancouver to New York and I got to experience their newish Vancouver lounge. The lounge opened on my 4th 2016 so it’s still quite a new space.

The lounge has seating for 105 people and is approximately 510 sqaure meters, while I was visiting there were probably a maximum of  20 people in there which meant is was very quiet and peaceful.

The lounge is open from 10.30 am to 3.00 pm and 8.00 pm to 2.00 am. It can be accessed First & Business Class passengers on Cathay Pacific and Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members.

The lounge was desgined by firm Studioilse, they work closely with Cathay. They’ve done most of Cathay’s lounges and here’s a few I had reviewed in the past. London Business & First loungeThe Pier First Lounge and the new Pier Business Lounge In Hong Kong.

The lounge has a large amount of very comfortable seating and at each side-table there are USB ports and powerpoints, something Cathay do well and they understand passengers want power.

As with most Cathay lounges, the Vancouver one has the famous Noodle Bar.

The best seats in the lounge has to be the ones at the window, they have a direct view overlooking the ramp and runway and have the side tables with power, what more could you want?

Bottom Line

The lounge is very similar and consistent with their other combined Business Class lounges. The Noodle Bar is always great, there is plenty of seating available, the wifi is fast and there is power easily accessible.

Vancouver is one of the worst Airports I ever had to visit. No restaurant. Only horrible fast food. No Bar. Surly staff. No service in Duty Free Shops. Avoid if possible.

Sure. That’s why YVR has been the best in North America for 8 years running. Go troll somewhere else.

March 14, 2017 · Richmond, B.C.

Today, Vancouver International Airport (YVR) was voted Best Airport in North America for the eighth consecutive year at the Skytrax World Airport Awards. Recognized as the global benchmark of airport excellence, the awards were voted on by 13.8 million passengers worldwide. YVR is the first and only airport to receive this top accolade for eight consecutive years.

“This impressive accomplishment is shared with the 23,000 people who work and volunteer at YVR as well as our amazing community, passengers and partners. On behalf of YVR, I thank you and offer you a big congratulations!” said Craig Richmond, President and CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority. “I am so proud of the YVR team for breaking our own record of most consecutive wins. This is particularly meaningful this year as we saw 22.3 million passengers come through our terminal—two million additional passengers from the year before.”

The Best Airport in North America award showcases the strength of the Canadian airport system, which enables innovation and the pursuit of excellence in overall airport operations and the passenger experience. All revenues generated at YVR are reinvested back into operations, maintenance and future projects. Vancouver Airport Authority, YVR’s managing organization, is committed to creating an airport that British Columbia can be proud of: a premier global gateway, local economic generator and community contributor.

More than 13.8 million passenger surveys were conducted in 550 airports around the world. The survey measures 39 elements in the airport travel experience ranging from check-in to security and border clearance processes, comfort, efficiency, signage, transportation availability, passenger amenities and friendliness. This is the world’s largest independent airport customer satisfaction survey.

YVR was voted in the top three for Best Airport Staff Service in North America. In addition, our partner Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel was also voted Best Airport Hotel in North America.

To celebrate winning for eight consecutive years, YVR is giving away eight free flights to any North American destination of your choice over the next eight days. For details and a chance to enter, go to yvr.ca and follow ‘YVR Airport’ on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
