Cathay Pacific Have Started Their Dine On Demand Trial Flights

A few months ago I wrote about Cathay Pacific’s dine on demand trial. Surprisingly, Cathay Pacific haven’t ever offered dine on demand in Business Class but they have been planning to introduce it into service for quite some time. Well, It looks like Cathay haven’t been wasting too much time in rolling it out:

The test flight on this video was the Hong Kong – London Gatwick leg which is currently operated by their A350-900 aircraft. Australian Business Traveller is reporting that Chicago will be the next service to see the trial from next month. It’ll be interesting to see how much variation there is between the two services as Chicago is operated by a 777-300ER instead of the A350. The trial to Gatwick will run until the end of the month.

From watching the video, the crew seemed to do quite well and I’m sure they would with the training they would receive beforehand.

It’s not yet known when the new ‘dine on demand’ service will be rolled out onto all services but I would think it would be shortly after the Chicago trial. I would also think Cathay would only have the new service on long-haul flights as having it on short and medium hauls could be a logical nightmare.

What do you think about Cathay adding ‘dine on demand’, was it about time they did?

Seems to be tray service for everything. That’s too bad. It’s much nicer when everything is placed on your table instead of being brought over cafeteria-style. But the flexibility will be great (as long as they don’t run out of the more popular items. 😉)

Exactly right, it’s a shame it’s all tray service but yes I can imagine they’ll run out of a few things.

Will be on lgw-Hkg this weekend. See how that will go. Was on Etihad last year Sydney-Anh and they offered dine on demand but forgot to serve!
