WOW – BP Want To End Their Partnership With Virgin Australia

In April of 2015, Virgin Australia and BP (service stations) created a unique partnership to which you earn points when you buy fuel and other items in the store. The earning rate currently is 2 points per litre of fuel and 2 points per $ on any other item bought. There are no minimum spend requirements, you have access to over 1000 service stations and you don’t need to sign up for a separate membership. All you have to do is swipe your card and you’d earn points, you could even use points to pay for fuel but that’s terrible value.

The partnership is a fantastic way to get hundreds and thousands of points, especially for big businesses with a fleet of vehicles. You’d could also earn more points by using the right credit card, that way the points added up very quickly.

However, it now looks like BP are wanting to end their partnership with Velocity early and Virgin are suing them over the matter.

Member BillytheFIsh shared the law documents on the matter and here they are:

Above are the records of what’s actually happening and below is the actual full description of what’s going on:

So from the documents above, the two parties have been having some disagreements and disputes for quite some time. It appears that BP wanted to create an agreement with Woolworths (who work with Qantas) and they wanted the Velocity deal to end on June 30th 2017. They also offered Velocity an opportunity to extend the partnership to the 1st of January 2018.

Velocity then came back and said that BP cannot end the partnership on the 30th of June, breached obligations in the agreement and that BP isn’t even allowed to end the relationship.

So far there’s no official word from either BP or Virgin to say if the partnership is going to stay or go. Velocity wants this matter to be handled and if they do I can imagine we will be saying goodbye to earning points at BP.

What does this have to do with Iceland’s only high performance low-cost airline?

“Wow” is a way to express astonishment or admiration. It also happens to be a low cost Iceland-based airline.
It doesn’t take long to realise that the headline is talking about the first option.
