The Park Hyatt Bangkok has to be one of the most anticipated hotels in Asia. The property was supposed to original open in 2014, yes you read that right, 2014!

The hotel was obviously delayed due to construction which is extremely common both in the hotel and aviation sectorWell now, that wait is over and the hotel has officially opened!

The category 5 hotel has 222 rooms and 32 suites altogether. The hotel of course, has free wifi for all guests, four restaurants and bars to choose from, and soon a spa.

The rooms start at the ‘Standard room’ and they measure between 48 and 63 sqm’s. The rooms can be with either a King Bed or 2 twin beds and all rooms have a view of the city.

The second series of rooms are the ‘Deluxe rooms’ and they are between 55 and 70 sqm’s. The rooms have quite a significant living space and they are only available with 1 King Bed.

The third series of rooms are ‘Suites’. The suites measure from 68 to 109 sqm’s in space, have a separate living room, can have additional room features like a pantry, dining area or powder room and they can either have 1 King Bed or a super-size bed whatever that means.

The fourth set of rooms are the ‘Diplomatic Suites ‘. These rooms can be between 115 and 122 sqm’s in size. The room does have a separate dining room and living space and features a super-size King bed.

And lastly, there are the ‘Presidental Suites’. The large suites measure in at 381 sqm’s, feature a private gym, spa treatment room, outdoor terrace, and even a whirl and plunge pool!

The hotel also has a large 40-metre saltwater pool with some pretty incredible views of Bangkok. There’s also a 25-metre lap pool and cabanas around the swimming area.

As I mentioned earlier, there’s 4 bars and restaurants to choose from. ‘The Living room’ offers Afternoon tea, ‘The Embassy Room’ specialises in Seafood but also offers Asian and Western dining options, ‘The Bar’ offers alcoholic beverages as a bar normally would and the ‘Bar + Grill’ which will open soon, is the entertainment complex in the hotel.

As well as all of this, there will soon be a spa available and the hotel also has direct access to one of the largest shopping malls in Thailand.

The hotel seems to be sold out for the first few weeks but after that, it’s wide open and the rates are ok.

As I briefly mentioned, the property is a category 5 hotel and will charge 20,000 points for a free night and 10,000 + $176 AUD for points + cash night.

I walked through the hotel the other day The place is like a museum. Looked much like the Qatar Airways Al Sawfa lounge. Im not sure this hotel is good …at all for leisure travelers. I like shorts and flip flops when in 90 degree Bangkok heat and you will feel way out of place in the hotel if not formally dressed. I can already tell the service will be world class and the infinity pool had quite an amazing view. I will still find myself at the wonderful Grand Hyatt which is better connected to the BTS and much more my style.

What a waste of money. Along with KL, BKK is one of the cheapest cities in the world for premium hotels. I stayed in a 5-star, non-chain hotel over NYE and got a 130 sqm 2 bedroom apartment for much less than the price of a one of these standard hotel rooms. It was so much space – we had 10 people there for drinks and there was still room to swing a cat.

I have always been a St Regis Bangkok person but I am trying the new Park Hyatt this month. While it does not have the perfect BTS connection like St Regis or the Grand Hyatt it is still pretty good.

The movie theater in the Central Embassy Mall below the hotel is a luxury experience like no other I have experienced…than again the tickets were about $40 USD per person.

It should be a great addition to the BKK hotel scene.
