A few weeks ago, Qantas announced that they will be bringing their own credit card to the market. When they first announced it, the information about the card was pretty limited as it wasn’t a full release. All we knew is that the card would offer a generous sign-up bonus, it was a Mastercard and it was a partnership with Citibank. Today the airline officially launched the card and the card looks very impressive.

‘The Qantas Premier Mastercard’ will have an introductory annual fee of $149, If you decide to keep the card, the fee will rise to $299.

Here is the what the card offers in terms of benefits:

  • The initial signup bonus for the card is 60,000 points and that is credited after spending $3000 in the first 90 days of holding the card.
  • The card will earn 2 Qantas Points per dollar on any Qantas purchase.
  • The card will earn 1.5 Qantas Points per dollar when you use the card overseas
  • The card will earn 1 Qantas Point per dollar when you’re making eligible purchases in Australia (you’ll earn 1 point per $ until you spend over $10,000 in one statement – if you do so it goes to 0.5 points per $)
  • The card includes 2 Qantas lounge invites per year
  • The card includes complimentary travel insurance
  • The card includes a discount of 20% on companion domestic fares when using the card through the Qantas Premier Concierge.
  • The points earn is uncapped

The card has some fantastic benefits, especially with the annual fee $149 as the introductory offer. Even at $299, this card blows away other cards in the market, especially with the upcoming RBA cuts.

Here are the smaller details about the card:

  • To add an authorised user, it’s $50
  • You have to be 18 to signup for the card
  • The interest-free period is up to 55 days
  • The retail purchase rate is 19.99 p.a
  • The cash advance rate is 21.99 p.a
  • The minimum credit limit is $6000

The new card is definitely a great one to have. With the signup bonus, and earn rates both on Qantas and for International spending, it’s a great card to consider. With Citi, you’re able to be an authorised user of cards so I’ll definitely be getting my hands on the card soon.

This card is crap. Get the ANZ one instead and wait till QF get a better offer when no one signs up.
