Some Changes Are Coming To The Blog…

Since February 25th this year (when I first got on BoardingArea) the blog has grown incredibly quickly, faster than I had ever thought it could have. Due to the fantastic growth, there are quite a few things that I’m wanting to improve and optimise for all of you guys as readers.

Not only has the blog grown very well but the last 3 weeks have been insane with the amount of media attention. With this, it brings a lot of people who may be new to using miles and points and I want those who want to learn more, be given the ability to do so.

  • Mailing list/newsletters.

This is one of the more minor things I want to improve but is beneficial. The majority of the people who read the blog don’t sit at home all day and do nothing. Most won’t check multiple times a day and that’s fine, this is where newsletters work wonders. I’m hoping to be able to send a newsletter at the end of every day with all of the day’s posts.

I’m also wanting to set up a list for when airlines have their miles on sale. There are a few carriers that sell points vigorously and the bonuses change all the time. This way, you won’t have to check the airline website every day to see if they’re on sale.

  • More beginner tutorials

As I mentioned with the media attention, there’s a lot of new people wanting to learn, earn and burn. First of all, Welcome! There’s a lot to learn but it’s worth it. I’m going to be doing more beginner orientated posts as I feel that’s something the blog lacks and it can benefit readers.

  • More hotel reviews

This is an exciting one, usually due to my age, most hotels won’t check me in but the more I research my options, I’m finding a lot of hotels that do In fact allow me to stay on my own. The majority of them are Hyatt’s, I’m also now a Globalist member with Hyatt so It’s making me stay at hotels a lot more.

  • Increased posting both on weekdays and weekends

I’m not afraid to admit it, I’ve been quite lazy the few last weeks. I think this is due to a terrible sleeping schedule and my slight addiction to the TV series ‘Suits’ but I can’t keep making that excuse. I’m a terrible sleeper at home yet I can sleep excellent on a plane but that’s slowly improving and I’m getting better sleep which helps me to wake earlier and post in the morning. As a result, I’m going to aim for at least 4-5 posts a day which I find I can manage pretty well. As for weekends, I’d like to do 2-3 a day.

  • Much more rigid schedule for posting

This ties into the previous point, with the better sleep, I’ll be able to get up early and post in the morning. I’m aiming to have at least 2 posts out by 10 am. I’ll also have another 2 out by 9 pm. If there’s more content I can cover, I’ll do more.

If you want to see any more improvements, please let me know!

I like the idea of more how-to tutorials for beginners. Not enough websites do this. Please make this ‘plain English’ and include loads of screenshots showing step by step what to do for buying, converting or redeeming miles. I don’t think you need to worry about having “at least 4-5 posts a day” because it’s about quality of posts not quantity. Some blogs like One Mile At A Time churn out posts on every single thing imaginable but the result is a real mess, it’s busy and has no ‘quality control’ which is a turn-off. It works for Ben’s blog which has maybe a million followers but a smaller blog like yours doesn’t need to try and do the same thing, you should focus on fewer posts even just 1-2 a day but make them quality posts like really good tutorials and relevant news instead of any random travel or flying related thing. I think you will find that quality of posts instead of quantity of posts is going to win you a better audience over time.

How to buy miles and points and redeem is a great idea, you could get a few hints from point hacks they do it so well, I wish you all the best…
