It’s been a long time coming but Qantas have finally taken delivery of their much, much anticipated 787-9 aircraft. To be more technical, the airline actually took offical delivery of it a few days ago at Boeing’s Everett factory but it’s now home on Australian soil in Sydney.

The aircraft, VH-ZNA the first of 8 787-9 Dreamliners landed at 7:00 on Runway 16L and taxied to Hanger 96 where it was greeted by a very large media presence and VIP guests.

It’s safe to say, the aircraft looks FANTASTIC! Qantas are extremely excited to see the new plane sporting the Kangaroo and I’m sure a lot of passengers are feeling the same way. The aircraft will now operate crew familiarisation and testing flights on domestic services. There won’t be added services but the aircraft would instead be taking over from an A330 operated service.

For those not familiar with the cabins onboard the 787, here’s a run down of what you’ll find onboard:
Business Class:
The suites are 80”bed/length, 23-24 seat width and 24-25” Bed width. The seats have a new privacy screen as well as do-not-disturb feature. The Suites also feature a 16” inch IFE screen and a USB and PC Charging point.

Premium Economy:
The new Premium Economy product onboard features a seat pitch of 32” and a width of 22.8.” Each seat comes with a fitted pillow, a 13.3” IFE screen, and a PC charging port.

Economy Class:
The new Economy seats have 32” of seat pitch and, 6” of seat recline. The seat is one of the first ever seats to feature mood lighting into the seat. The seats feature a 12” IFE screen that is high definition and touch screen. The seats have USB power, a PC Charging and also includes a foot net for extra support.
Qantas’ 787 Economy Class
The first route the aircraft will ”officially” operate is Melbourne – Los Angeles which will start on December 15th and will followed by Melbourne – Perth – London on March 25th 2018. After these flights, Qantas will start Brisbane – Los Angeles – New York services and possibly more routes but that information isn’t available at this time and I will post about that once Qantas officially announce it.
Overall it’s fantastic to see Qantas take delivery of their first 787 and it’s nice for the wait to be over. I’ll hopefully be hoping on one of the domestic testing flights and I’ll review the experience. I’m not currently booked on the long-haul services but who knows, I may end up on one sooner rather than later.

I think you have an error/typo about the Premium Economy pitch. It should be 38″ not 32″ (which is the standard economy pitch).
