Not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but Reuters are reporting that both Etihad and Lufthansa are currently in talks about a possible merger.
Per Reuters,
According to the paper, managers from both companies have for weeks been examining the possibility of Etihad taking a 30-40 percent stake in Lufthansa via a capital increase reserved for the Abu Dhabi state-owned airline.
In a second step, the two airlines would look at a full-blown merger to create a carrier with 97 million passengers a year, the paper said. It added the parties would meet shortly to speed up the talks.
If it were to happen would Etihad join Star Alliance?, what would happen to Air Berlin? who know’s there are many questions to be answered. I for one wouldn’t like to see it happen as I think Etihad and Lufthansa are both fine on their own but that’s just what I think.
I’d also say if this was to happen it wouldn’t happen anytime soon as it’s a huge thing to sort out.
Hopefully, we’ll find 0ut some more information in the next few weeks and months and I’ll able to report more about it.
