I’m still not 100% sure if this is a bug or Qantas are doing it on purpose but the airline is currently offering a big discount on seat selection for international flights.
Qantas are currently charging $30 instead of $90 and even $180 for some routes.

Keep in mind this will only benefit economy flyers with no status as premium passengers and certain status holders have no charge for seat selection.
