What can I use Qantas points for?
Well, definitely not a Vacuum or Toaster. Qantas points are nowhere near the most valuable points currency around, but they have some value if you use them correctly.
Using Qantas points for upgrades is probably the best use of points, especially for legs to Perth.
If you’re booked on a discount economy ticket from Sydney to Perth it will cost you 25,000 points to get into Business but if you’ve booked a flexible fare it’s only 10,000 points.
Short hops like Sydney – Brisbane or Melbourne – Sydney will cost you 10,000 points on a discount ticket or 5,000 points on a flexible fare.
Another good use of points is redemptions on partner airlines, especially with Emirates. Emirates have an extensive network to and from Australia and New Zealand.
The best way to get to either Auckland or Christchurch is onboard either Emirates Business or First Class. Business across the pond will cost you 32,000 points and First will cost you 54,000 points.
If you travel Qantas very often, definitely take advantage of the promotion. I myself no longer collect Qantas points from flying. Lately, I’ve been crediting my flights to AAdvantage & Mileage plan
