Qantas has today announced plans for services to Kangaroo Island from both Adelaide and Melbourne. Kangaroo Island is a new destination for the carrier which is quite exciting. For those not aware, the Island is just off South Australia and is Australia’s 3rd largest Island. The population of the Island is estimated to be around 4,500 people and to give you an idea of how big it is, it’s 4,405 squared kilometres.
There have been previous airlines that flew into the Island but Qantaslink will be the only carrier with scheduled services.
For both the Melbourne and Adelaide, Qantaslink will utilise their Dash-8 fleet of aircraft. Melbourne will use the larger -Q400 variant while Adelaide will use the -Q300 aircraft. The new services are set to start in December.
Here is the following schedule for both of the flights:
Adelaide
QF2142 will depart Adelaide at 10:40 am and arrive into Kangaroo Island at 11:15 am every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
QF2413 will depart Kangaroo Island at 11:45 am and arrive into Adelaide at 12:20 pm every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Melbourne
QF2140 will depart Melbourne at 11:35 am and arrive into Kangaroo Island at 12:30 pm every Tuesday and Friday
QF2140 will depart Melbourne at 12:20 pm and arrive into Kangaroo Island at 1:15 pm every Sunday
QF2141 will depart Kangaroo Island at 11:35 am and arrive into Melbourne at 3:50 pm every Tuesday and Friday
QF2141 will depart Kangaroo Island at 1:00 pm and arrive into Melbourne at 3:05 pm every Sunday
As for the seating onboard the Dash-8’s, they’re in a 1 class configuration. The Q400 seats 74 passengers in a 2-2 configuration while the Q300 seats 50 in the same 2-2 configuration. The pitch of the seats are both 31-32” and the width is also 17.”
Qantas are having a sale on the new flight and seats for the Adelaide – Kangaroo Island flight start at $99 and for Melbourne, It’s $199.
