Could Australian’s Soon Be Eligible For Global Entry?

If there’s one thing I’d love to have when I travel, it would definitely be Global Entry. If you’ve traveled to the United States before as an Australian citizen on an Australian passport you would have most likely of used the ESTA Visa line, and the wait times can be absolutely ridiculous. 1-2 hours waiting time isn’t something people want, especially if you haven’t slept 14 hours. I’m looking at you, Los Angeles 😉

While standing in those long lines, off to the left, you’ll see an open section and people using a machine and breeze through. That area is known as ‘Global Entry.’

Definition of Global Entry

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Members enter the United States through automatic kiosks at select airports.

Who’s eligible for the program?

  • Citizens of Colombia
  • Citizens of United Kingdom
  • Citizens of Germany
  • Citizens of the Netherlands
  • Citizens of Panama
  • Citizens of Singapore
  • Citizens of South Korea
  • Mexican nationals

As you can see Australia isn’t on the list, But, there are reports coming from FlyerTalk that the Australia government should be making a decision about the program mid-year.

Per user Daniel-SYD,

I’ve learnt that for Aussies wanting GEP, Australia is making a decision on it by mid-year. So, if this is something you value, it may make sense to write in and let them know. They take months to reply…

If this is correct this is absolutely fantastic news!, It’s something I’m sure a lot of US-bound travelers will use and find very valuable. The program is only $100USD for five years. It’s something I’d love to see happen and hopefully, it gets approved.
