Qatar Airways has today commenced their brand new Doha to Auckland service using a Boeing 777-200LR. This flight is now currently the longest in the world, the flight time from Doha to Auckland is blocked at 16 hours and 10 minutes and the return flight to Doha is 17 hours and 45 minutes.
QR920 leaves Doha’s Hamad airport at 02:5o and arrives into Auckland at 05:00 local time, QR921 leaves Auckland at 14:4o and arrives into Doha at 22:10. Qatar can do this non-stop flight only with their 777-200LR for those don’t know the ‘LR’ stands for long range.
Qatar’s 777-200LR is a 2 class aircraft with Business & Economy class. The aircraft has 42 lie-flat business class seats in a 2-2-2 configuration. The seats have a pitch of 78, 78 inches long and have a width of 22.
The Economy cabin features 217 seats in a 3-3-3 configuration with a pitch of 33 and a width of 18.9.
As I headed up to the gate it was great to see Akbar Al Baker had taken the flight and he didn’t seem to tired, it was also nice to see him smile as that’s usually not too common 😉
The airport put on a traditional Maori dance and welcome and passengers loved it. It was also nice to see Richard Quest from CNN doing some reporting on the flight.
