I haven’t talked about Shangri-La properties much on the blog purely because I’m not too familiar with the brand. I’ve only ever stayed at one of their hotels and that was the one in Dubai. From what I do know, they’re all 5-star hotels and it’s quite evident from the Dubai property. The hotel chain doesn’t have a big footprint in Australia, they’ve only got 2 properties they’re located in Sydney and Cairns.

The chain has over 99 hotels around the world. The majority of their properties are located mostly in Asia, the Middle East and Europe, they also have a select few properties in the United States and Canada.

Shangri-La has announced that they will be expanding their Australian presence by opening a new hotel in Melbourne which is set to open in 2022.

The new hotel will have around 500 hotel rooms and it will be located on Exhibition Street in Melbourne’s CBD. This means the hotel will look all over the city and it’s surroundings. The property is set to have a pool, many restaurants, ballrooms and spa facility.

The building will be built with another tower connected to it. One of them will obviously be the hotel while the other tower will house 300 apartments as well as some office spaces.

They haven’t any other artist impressions of what the property will look like as it’s way too far to find out. All we know is that it will be 5-star, be quite a high building giving excellent views and it will probably be priced steeply as with most 5-star accommodation in Australia.

Overall, it’s great to see the chain expand into Australia and it will give travellers another choice if they’re after a luxury hotel. I would say that the hotel will be extremely popular with the views that it will have.
