Virgin Australia has just announced confirmation for it’s upcoming Melbourne – Hong Kong service. The new service will be taking off from the 5th of July 2017.
This follows the interim approval from the ACCC to allow the partnership with HNA Aviation, Hong Kong Airlines, and HK Express. The flights will go on sale from tomorrow (March 22nd) and they are just waiting for final approval.
The airline will be utilizing their A330-200 fleet for the route. The aircraft features 20 of their award winning business class seats. and 255 economy seats in a 2-4-2 configuration. I’ve reviewed the Business product before so you can check them out here – Brisbane – Perth & Sydney – Los Angeles.
“Travellers to and from Hong Kong will be able to fly in the world’s best business class and dine on a restaurant-in-the-sky experience designed by resident chef Luke Mangan. Coupled with service delivered by the world’s best cabin crew, we know guests travelling on this route from July will appreciate the effortless luxury that comes with Virgin Australia,” Mr Borghetti said.
Here is the following schedule for the service:
MEL-HKG
VA89, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday leaves Melbourne at 00:35 and arrives into Hong Kong at 08:15
VA87, Monday leaves Melbourne at 10:25 and arrives into Hong Kong at 18:05
VA87, Wednesday leaves Melbourne at 09:40 and arrives into Hong Kong at 17:20
HKG-MEL
VA86, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday leaves Hong Kong at 19:50 and arrives into Melbourne at 08:20 +1
As you can see, there is quite a variety in flight times available, I like this as it provides quite a lot of flexibility for travellers.
At this time there isn’t any information regarding the codeshare agreement between the Hong Kong Airlines and HK Express, there will more more information available at a later date.
I also don’t have any information regarding what the cost with points will but however, that will all be revealed tomorrow once the flights go on sale.
