Virgin Australia Is Removing Tablets From Business Class

Inflight Entertainment has come a long way in the past decades, we’ve seen a huge push from seat back entertainment up to the point now where passengers are able to bring their own device onboard with them. They are then able to access the airlines’ content wirelessly which then saves the airline millions as aircraft aren’t fitted with extra weight creating more fuel burn.

For guests seated in Business Class, passengers have access to a Samsung tablet for the duration of your flight. These tablets I always found to be efficient and work quite well, especially considering not too many of Virgin’s 737’s have in-seat power turned on.

In an update from Virgin, from September 30th, it looks like the Samsung tablets will no longer be offered:

Per the Virgin Australia website,

From 30 September 2019, all Samsung Inflight Entertainment Tablets will no longer be loaded on our 737 aircraft for our Business Class guests. We encourage our Business Class guests to download the Virgin Australia Entertainment App, available in both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, to their device prior to their next flight. To enjoy our Inflight Entertainment on offer, guests should ensure they have updated their device to its latest software with iOS 11 & Android 7 being the minimum versions.

While it’s a little disappointing these tablets are being removed, I don’t think many will be affected. On my last few recent flights in Business, I’ve had to ask to use the tablet instead of it being offered and when I ask, I’ve been the only one that’s wanted to make use of them.

One thing I would really like to see is Virgin really work on in-seat power as It’s something every passenger can use and is a huge benefit for travellers.

The removal of Samsung devices will apply to all 737 routes operated by Virgin Australia.
